Dr Yeshurun Tanna joins St Nicolas Church, Taplow, as the new director of music. He is a teacher of Chemistry at Wellington College, prior to which he taught at Pangbourne College for 6 months, and prior to teaching completed a PhD in Biophysical Chemistry at Durham University. Alongside his academic pursuits, he has held prestigious choral scholarships and maintains an active performance profile as a tenor and organist. Yeshurun began his musical journey as a chorister at Wakefield Cathedral Choir, where he served for eleven years, becoming Head Chorister and eventually Choral Scholar. He later held the position of Tenor Choral Scholar at Hereford Cathedral for a year and sang with CBSO Chorus for two seasons. He has also been a member of the University of Warwick Chamber Choir and the Warwick University Choral Society during his undergraduate studies. For two years, Yeshurun was a Choral Scholar with the Armonico Consort, performing a wide range of repertoire across the UK.
More recently, he has been a Tenor Choral Scholar at St John’s College Chapel Choir, Durham, for three years, and has sung as a deputy tenor with Durham Cathedral Choir. He holds ABRSM Grade 8 in Singing, Piano and Flute and currently working towards Grade 8 in Organ. He achieved an ARSM Diploma in Singing with Distinction and is working towards the FRSM Diploma. Alongside his choral interests, he was the organ scholar for the choir of St Peter’s Church, Horbury, accompanying the choir at weekly evensongs. His musical interests span liturgical, choral, orchestral and solo performance, with an emphasis on sacred and early music. In addition to his performance work, Yeshurun has contributed to the musical life of each institution he has been part of, often integrating his leadership and academic expertise with his musical commitments.
