Outcomes from PCC Meeting: Wednesday, 20th November, 2024

  • Servery Plans: Our Architect has spent a day in church doing detailed measurements to design a permanent structure plan to be submitted to the Diocese for approval.  At its January meeting, the PCC is committed to considering the overall development of the South Aisle including the office area and toilet.
  • Kneeler Project: A group is exploring a plan to convert many of the kneelers into long cushions for our pews.  They are soon to create a prototype prior to enlisting help from other members of our church to produce them.  It is intended to mount an exhibition of the kneelers in due course.
  • Our Heating System: The system has suffered with various problems which are now identified and being addressed at a cost of nearly £5K.  When this work is done, we will seek a contractor for annual service.
  • Our Monthly Charity Appeals: The meeting heard from the Mission and Outreach group who have reviewed our first year and made suggestions for how our charity appeals might work next year.  During Advent, our congregation will be invited to submit suggestions for charities to be supported and the group will finalise them giving consideration to different areas of need and local/national/international charities.
  • A Bereavement Friendly Church: The meeting considered the commitments for becoming a Bereavement Friendly Church.  Mindful of our starting a Bereavement Journey Course early next year, we will consider this further in the light of our experience with this course.
  • Finance: The PCC agreed to make payment of around 80% of our Parish Share, to allocate a budget of £500 to our Kneeler Project and to fund the repair of our boilers.  The continuing emphasis on raising further funds was appreciated including the Friends work, the Christmas Fair and the imminent Archaeology Talk.
  • Safeguarding: The meeting shared its sadness that the John Smythe case had so undermined trust and confidence in the Church of England.  At a parish level, we are determined to do everything we can to maintain and build the confidence of our community in all we do and how we do it.
  • Our January, 2025 Meeting: This will focus on the development of the South Aisle and planning our calendar for the year.

If you have any questions about anything listed here, don’t hesitate to talk to a member of the PCC.
