Outcomes from the PCC Meeting: 10th March, 2025

  • Converting the kneelers into pew cushions: The PCC looked at two sample pew cushions and were delighted with them.  When the project is completed, there will be fourteen of these (7 each side) and the cost for construction is £220 per cushion.  It is hoped that this will be funded through donations.  The PCC recorded its appreciation to the group who have made this project a reality and fully support initiatives for raising the necessary funding.
  • Bereavement Journey Course: Four people are attending this course and getting a great deal from it.  Those involved in leading the course feel the materials are well worth using again another year.
  • Heating System Update: Both boilers are now working.  There has been a problem with the remote control which is being addressed.  We plan to establish a service plan in due course.
  • Electrical testing and fire risk assessment: This has raised a number of issues which the PCC is now addressing to comply with safety regulations – including the need for a fire drill.
  • Sycamore tree work: Within our churchyard, one tree is taking light from a neighbour’s house and we now have a plan to address this matter.
  • South Aisle Servery Project: With some minor queries, the Diocese has now approved the servery project and the next stage will be to finalise the plans, seek quotations and apply for grants.  The new servery will be made largely of oak.  The PCC see this project as important in preparing our church for wider use by the community into the future.  The next priority would be to look at options to improve toilet facilities.
  • Sub Groups: The Worship Sub Group and the Mission & Outreach Group have meetings planned in the next few months.
  • Fabric:  We have had problems with roof leaks in heavy rain.  The gutters have been cleaned and other repairs made.
  • The Friends of St Nicolas Church: Our Taplow Talks continue to raise important funding for our church; one is planned for before the summer holidays and one in the autumn.  The PCC shared ideas about people who might do talks for us.
  • Finance: The PCC is increasingly concerned about how we balance the books given lowering income from parish giving (less people involved) and increasing costs.  We discussed ways in which our electoral roll could have more information about the position which will also be explained at our APCM in May.
  • Electoral Roll:  The new electoral roll will be completed over the next month.  There were 98 people on the previous roll and 67 have signed up for the new roll.  The PCC heard that we are following up anyone who has not yet signed up to check their position.
