Prompted by the requirement for a statutory inspection of our fixed electrical circuitry as well as the need to negotiate a contract for regular heating boiler maintenance, we commissioned an asbestos survey. Unfortunately asbestos was discovered in the boiler room and adjoining crypt (both accessed from steps down outside the church). The area is now sealed off pending removal of the asbestos by specialists. Our best quote for this work is £29,460 which, clearly we not have the budget for.
We will not be able to heat our church until this work is done so urgent action is needed to avoid huge disruption in the autumn to our regular services, weddings and funerals, and the multiple community events hosted in the church such as coffee mornings, the toddler group, Taplow Talks and concerts.
We are seeking emergency grants to help us fund the works but these are unlikely to cover more than half the total cost. The congregation have already pledged a number of interest free loans to enable us to proceed with the works, but these kind loans will need to be repaid. We are now appealing to the whole Taplow Community to meet this unwelcome challenge; please consider what you can offer to sustain our lovely building and all it offers to our local community.
