Outcomes from the PCC Meeting: 11th March, 2026

  • South Aisle Project:  It would seem that we could be getting approval shortly.  The next step will be to seek quotes and assess the cost and how the project might be financed.
  • Director of Music/Organist Position: We are now advertising in specialist journals and local newspapers for a part-time or full-time post-holder.  If these efforts do not attract applicants, the PCC will consider what alternatives there might be for our music in worship.  The meeting was very appreciative of the current contributions of Gillian and Phil is keeping things going.
  • Financial Review:  The accounts clearly show that our income is not meeting our expenditure and very reluctantly, the PCC agreed that from April to June, we are only in a position to pay 30% of our monthly parish share.  We acknowledged the significance of this for having a full-time Vicar and Rectory and focussed on how we can raise our income to increase our parish share payments and protect our position.  In addition to our fund-raising initiatives, three things were considered:
    • Ensuring that everyone on the electoral roll uses the Parish Giving Scheme and those already using it reviews their level of regular giving.
    • We seek ‘sponsorship’ for expenditure which is specific and ask people to donate.
    • We look at whether we can raise more money through investing capital.

Our treasurer is issuing a financial position ‘flyer’ this week and will speak to this in the ‘notices’ on Sunday morning.

  • Cleaning the Church: The number of people able to carry out the weekly cleaning of our church is diminishing and we are forced to find paid cleaning support to clean the church at least once per month.  This is being addressed.
  • Sub-Committee Reports: The Worship Sub-Committee had met to look at arrangements for the World Day of Prayer Service, the Mothering Sunday Service and the Easter Services.  The Fabric Sub-Committee reported on the roof repairs, gulley cleaning, the installation of electric sockets, addressing heating system issues and the maintenance of our organ.  The Friends of St Nicolas Church reported on the Taplow Talks and fund-raising for the South Aisle Project.
  • Children and Young People: Jane and Nicki reported on a positive and useful Deanery meeting about mission in this area.  The PCC acknowledged the importance of this and appreciated the key points being made about how we should proceed.
  • Christmas Fair 2026: This important fund-raiser will take place on either 21st or 28th November, 2026.  We need to find someone to co-ordinate the arrangements.
