- The South Aisle Servery Project: The PCC shared some frustration that getting the faculty to allow us to complete this work is taking a long time mainly due to Diocesan needs for detailed architect’s drawings. It is likely that this will continue for some months.
- Our Video Installation: Some technical issues are still being resolved but we hope to remove the temporary cable across the church soon.
- New Television: The Friends of St Nicolas Church have funded the new larger TV screen which will be used for Taplow Talks, other presentations, occasional use in services and live-streaming events. The existing TV screen is now being used to promote services and events initially located in the porch.
- Heating repairs: we are running on one of our two boilers at present and parts to fix the other boiler are to be installed.
- Storage: With the new television and servery area, a sub-group has been established to create a new plan for the storage of items and equipment in church.
- Laity leading intercessions: the group is now four people and we will continue to encourage more people to participate.
- Reviewing recent events: Songs of Praise was felt to be well-prepared and appreciated by all who came. The Autumn Lecture Series has been attended by between 10 and 18 people per session (we will follow this again next year). The Scarecrow Festival brought over 300 people into church and also made over £1000. The Harvest Festival Service was felt to be a bit late this year and will be scheduled earlier next year. The Bonfire Party was appreciated by all who attended although numbers were down (55) compared with the last time we held this.
- Preparing for Future Events: the Council discussed plans for Remembrance, the November Taplow Talk, the Christmas Fair, the Patronal Festival and our Christmas Services
- Kneelers Proposal: The Council warmly welcomed a proposal to have a late Spring 2024 Exhibition of some kneelers and cassocks. We also approved a plan to convert some kneelers into cushions to go onto pews.
- Childrens’ Bags: We now have activity bags for the use of children attending our Eucharistic Service on Sundays.
- Monthly Charity: we are going to establish a monthly charity project to encourage regular charity giving.
- Finance: the Council reviewed current statements and agreed movement of monies.
- The use of oasis in flower arranging: the Council appreciated the wonderful work of our flower arrangers and fully supported the commitment to abandon the use of non-recyclable foam in flower arranging.
- Planning services and events in 2024: It was agreed that the next PCC meeting will focus on planning services and events for the whole of next year.
