Music

Choral music is a real strength both in our worship and leisure.  The award winning Taplow Youth Choirs have a national reputation and tour abroad.  St Nicolas’ has a robed, mixed, RSCM-affiliated choir of 24 adults and children, which sings at St Nicolas’ Sunday morning services (Communion and Choral Matins) throughout the year, including all Sundays during the summer months.

The choir also sings at wedding services and celebratory events held at St Nicolas’.  They visit St Anne’s Church Dropmore,on the fourth Sunday each month to sing Choral Matins.  This is a traditional Service which includes the singing of the appointed Psalm, Te Deum etc and an anthem.

St Nicolas’ Church houses a pipe-organ and a Yamaha grand-piano, which makes it an attractive concert and wedding venue.  Whilst the English choral tradition remains central to our music, singing hymns, songs, psalms and anthems in a variety of styles is undertaken.  The choir has over 120 anthems in our constantly expanding repertoire.

Choir at St Alban’s Abbey: May, 2016

Our choir is often augmented at festivals and celebratory services by a regular and supportive group of voluntary visiting singers.  In recent years we have sung at Southwark and Guildford cathedrals, Christchurch, Oxford, and most recently at St Alban’s Cathedral.

Younger singers follow the RSCM Voice for Life scheme and several go on to gain choral scholarships and to sing elsewhere, including our own Taplow Choirs.
