This Week’s Notices

Annual Service of Remembering: This service for all those who have been bereaved is next Sunday (30th) at 3:00pm when we celebrate Candlemas, the Christian Festival of Light. Whether you have been bereaved recently or many years ago, you are warmly welcomed to participate in this lovely gentle service of words, music and silence, when we remember and light a candle for each of our loved ones. The short service will be followed by refreshments.

An opportunity to serve and enjoy!:  Snic Snacks from 2:30 to 3:30 on Friday afternoon is a popular part of our mission in the wider community and an opportunity to have a cuppa and meet with young parents.  We need two people every Friday to run this outreach.  Could you join the team one Friday per month?  Do you know of anyone else (not necessarily a church member) for whom this would be a good opportunity?  Please talk to Jane or Suzanne about this.

in Love and Faith: This is an excellent Church of England course focussing on identity, relationships, marriage and sexuality.  There is an opportunity to join the course in our Deanery.  There are five weekly sessions (each about an hour and a half) on Wednesdays starting on 9th February; one at St Mary’s, Datchet at 12.00pm and one at St Thomas, Colnbrook at 6.00pm.  Full information on https://www.churchofengland.org/resources/living-love-and-faith.  Email sloughburnhamdeanery@gmail.com if you would like to go along.

Lovely Concert opportunity next Saturday:  Gillian Dibden is leading a performance of the very popular Mozart ‘Requiem’ and a short Haydn piece, with soloists and full orchestra at St Luke’s Church, Norfolk Road on Saturday 29th January, at the comfortably early time of 5.00 pm. The concert will last about an hour, and tickets are available at the door £15 (£13 concessions).

Welsh Evening: the next Social Event raising funds for our church will be on St David’s Day, Tuesday, 1st March when we will have a Welsh Evening put  together for us by Esme and Peter Mitchell.  There will be Welsh food, and a beautiful film about the longest river in Wales—the Towy.  Tickets are £10 and can be obtained in church or online (Click ‘the Friends>Welsh Evening’ on our website).

Some postponed events: Due either directly or indirectly to the Covid situation, the following events have been postponed:

Churches Together Songs of Praise due to take place on Sunday, 23rd January

Our Quiz Night due to take place on Saturday, 22nd January

The Bishop’s visit to our Deanery due to take place on Thursday, 20th January

St Nicolas joins the REFILL REVOLUTION!: We are reducing our plastic waste by refilling used plastic bottles instead of sending them to be recycled or wasted.  We have teamed up with the REFILL HUB (see advert in our Christmas newsletter) to supply the church with cleaning materials that createPLASTIC WASTE.  We already have products in church which you can try.  Look out for our supplies of:

Liquid Hand Soap(French Vanilla)

Hand Sanitiser Gel 70% alcohol(French Vanilla)

Anti-bac All Purpose Cleaner(French Lavender)

Washing Up Liquid(Rhubarb and Lemon)

Toilet Cleaner(Spearmint and Peppermint)

The REFILL HUB visits Burnham Market on Wednesday mornings 8.30 – 13.00, and several other venues.  Times and prices are given on their website.refill-hub.co.uk.  If you wish to reduce your own plastic waste you can either take your empty plastic bottles to the  Refill Hub, or bring them to church and Hilary will get them filled for you.  Chat to Hilary for more details.

Parish Giving Scheme: Our treasurer, Jessie Cooper points out to us that the very best way to contribute to the work of our Parish Church is to use the Parish Giving Scheme. If you do not yet use this way of donating to church and you would like to know more about it or ask any questions, please contact Jessie Cooper (Parish Treasurer) in confidence… by email: mjessiecooper@btinternet.com or phone: 01628 603187
