“Praise the Lord!” (Psalm 150 and numerous other psalms!).
After thirteen hours of singing (interrupted only during our morning service), our augmented choir completed the challenge of singing 150 psalms and raising over £3,700 in the process.
The final note of the final psalm, Psalm 150, was sung at 9.10 p.m.
It was a monumental effort from an impressive number of singers who produced a worthy sound throughout the challenge encouraged and supported throughout by Neil and Gillian (music), Pam and Judy (refreshments), various people who came to listen (top accolade going to Barbara Smith who was there at the beginning and there at the end and much of the time in between), and, of course, the many, many people who gave their money so generously.
Psalm 119 (all 176 verses) took 32 minutes 45 seconds to sing and the winning guess for how long it would take was that of Neil Matthews – our organist and choirmaster! He won the most deserved box of chocolates!
Huge thanks to everyone involved in this memorable and fitting occasion.
