Peace and Quiet.
Rest and Relaxation. It’s what we all hope for, perhaps particularly during the summer and especially if our lives are busy the rest of the year. Yet even those of you whose lives are now less pressured in pace, still yearn for peace and rest.
Last Sunday as we reflected on the story of the feeding of the 5000 we were reminded that we can trust in a God who cares for us and provides for us, who wants to be to us the best kind of father – one who delights in his children and longs to hear and meet their needs; one who wants our company as we sit at his feet and take time from our busy lives to be still and listen; one who is able to provide for us just as he provides for the flowers of the field and the birds of the air; one who delights to give us the Kingdom.
So whether your summer is one of holidays and fun, or quiet living, or facing struggle and difficulty, let’s all take a deep breath and make space this August to relax into the arms of a loving God, to confide our concerns, and let him carry our anxieties.
Reverend Jane Cresswell
Creator of all, thank You for summer!
Thank You for the warmth of the sun
and the increased daylight.
Thank You for the beauty I see all around me
and for the opportunity to be outside
and enjoy Your creation.
Thank You for the increased time I
have to be with my
friends and family,
and for the more casual pace of the summer season.
Draw me closer to You this summer.
Teach me how I can pray no matter
where I am or what I am doing.
Warm my soul with the awareness of
Your presence, and light my pa
Your Word and Counsel.
As I enjoy Your creation, create in me
a pure heart and a hunger and a thirst for You.
